Our story behind HEART,

a food insecurity nonprofit serving families across Texas and Missouri, is rooted in lived experience, community service, and a lifelong commitment to helping others.

our story behind HEART

HEART began with something simple, a desire to help.

Our story began from an early age, giving back has always been part of our story. Whether it was participating in school programs, organizing fundraisers, or helping friends and neighbors, there has always been a natural drive to support others, even when there wasn’t much to give.
That continued into young adulthood. Even as teenagers, we found ways to help people get to work, find jobs, access food, or simply get through difficult moments, often using our own limited resources and going without ourselves.

We didn’t have much.

But we understood what it meant to need help.
That understanding deepened through lived experiences with food insecurity. There were times when meals had to be stretched for days, when basic necessities were uncertain, and when survival meant making difficult choices.
Those moments don’t leave you.
They shape how you see the world and how you show up for others.

A Journey of Service

Service became a bigger part of our story through AmeriCorps, where work focused on poverty alleviation and community support.

One experience included living on a Native American reservation as a community engagement specialist, working directly with communities facing poverty.

Later, service continued through disaster recovery efforts, including deployment to Florida following Hurricane Ian and rebuilding homes in Houston years after Hurricane Harvey and Winter Storm Uri.

Seeing the long-term impact of hardship and the resilience of communities, was both eye-opening and life-changing.

But even with all of that experience, starting a nonprofit always felt out of reach.

Building Something Bigger

It wasn’t until we met and began working together that everything shifted.
We shared the same mindset, a deep desire to help people, real-life experiences with hardship, and a belief that we could build something meaningful together.
What started as an idea became a decision.
We chose to take the risk and build HEART.
We began with a focused approach, providing pantry box assistance and food support, knowing that food insecurity is one of the most immediate and critical needs families face.

But our vision has always been bigger.

HEART was intentionally created to grow beyond one program. As we build, we will continue expanding in ways that meet real needs within our communities.
We believe in building something that evolves with the people we serve.

This is not just a nonprofit to us.
This is our life’s work.

We are building HEART to serve today, grow responsibly, and create lasting impact for years to come.

Because no one should have to struggle alone.
And because when people come together, real change happens.

Be Part of Our Story

HEART is just getting started. With your support, we can continue building programs that serve families and strengthen communities.

Because real change starts with people who care enough to act.

As HEART continues to grow, our focus remains on expanding our reach and deepening our impact in the communities we serve. We are committed to developing sustainable programs that not only address immediate needs but also create long-term support systems for families.
From community cookouts to care packages, every step forward is driven by a shared belief that real change is possible when people come together with purpose. We are just getting started, and with continued support, we look forward to reaching more families, building stronger partnerships, and creating lasting impact where it matters most.

This is only the beginning of what we can build together.

HEART is a growing nonprofit organization working to fight food insecurity, expand community support and strengthen communities across Texas and Missouri. Through pantry support, outreach, and community-driven programs, we are building a foundation to serve individuals and families long-term. This is Our Story.
